INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLYING DESIGN CONCRETE ON WALLS (KIT STANDARD)

It is recommended not to apply the product in temperatures below 10° C. Shake each bottle well before use.

SUBSTRATE
Please make sure before the application substrate must be strong, stable, smooth dust and damp free.

MIXING COLOUR
Entire measured pigments powder should be mixed in exactly 3 litres of water and stir well with mechanical
mixture. For large surface area (several kits) always start with 3 pots measured pigment powder and 9 litres of water, when 1⁄4 of water remains add another 3 pots of measured pigment and 9 litres if water, this achieves colour consistency. Always stir well with mechanical mixture

Mix cement and pigmented water as required, creating homogeneous paste.

Useful tip
Make a sample board first , prior to commencing work, very useful to avoid any colour disputes.
Avoid using pigmented water after 24 hours as pigments will settle at the bottom and colour might change.
Two coats of application to the small surfaces can be achieved in a day. For large surfaces should be planned for one coat to the entire area and second next day or when time permits. Second coat determines the final appearance. Sealer must be applied with brush (criss-cross strokes) Varnish must be applied with brush (criss-cross strokes) Apply as many coasts as possible.

Please follow the application instructions carefully.

Strong, Stable, Smooth, Clean, Dust-free, Free from dampness, Rigid New concrete should complete
dry.

Over the existing tiles or non-porous substrates 2-5 mm layer of levelling compound to cover the grout to form smooth stable clean surface.
Over the wood floor If the floor is movement free and stable. Then levelling compound screed to form
smooth stable clean surface.
If the floor has movements, it is imperative to fix any movements or nails securely to create strong and
rigid base. Then prepare subfloor using tongue and groove marine ply, marine MDF or (18mm
minimum).or solid hardwood layer of 2/3 mm Levelling compound, mesh and levelling compound before
the application of Design Concrete.

The substrate must be stable, free of oily stains and dust, without cracks and completely flat. If the substrate comprises two different materials or uneven surfaces, it is imperative to cover joints/uneven surfaces with a mash, ditra mat, a screed or ultra fibre.

PRIMER: Apply at a criss-cross. Allow to dry for at least 1 hour before applying the concrete.

Tip: For non-flat substrates or tiles, the surface must first be evened out with coating (E.g. tile glue, a levelling compound or ultra fibre) to make it flat.

  1. In a bucket, mix the colour pigments with 3 litres of water, using a mechanical mixer.
  2. Take a quantity of pigmented water, then add the micro concrete powder, mixing with the mixer to obtain a homogeneous mixture.

The exact amount of pigmented water for 10kg of concrete is 2.7 litres. If your mixture is too hard, add more pigmented water.

Remember to mix the water well before each use.

Apply a first layer using a trowel or a smoothing blade maximum 1mm thick.

Then apply a second layer: This can be done when the surface is still wet or dry. Smooth out the second coat to give it a uniform appearance.

Once dry (24 hours), to smooth the concrete, sand it down with a 120 grit sandpaper. It is advisable to use an orbital sander.

(Before proceeding to the next step make sure the surface has been vacuumed and that it is dust-free and dry.)

Apply the sealer (satin) twice at a criss-cross. Total drying time: 24 hours.

(Before proceeding to the next step make sure the surface has been vacuumed and that it is dust-free and dry.)

Satin Varnish: Apply two or three layers at a criss-cross. Total drying time: 48 hours.

(OR)

Matt Varnish: Mix resin A with compound B. Apply the mixture at a criss-cross. Total drying time: 24 hours.

Substrate

  1. Design Concrete floors are totally maintenance
free, since they require no waxing or sealers once
    applied during the installation
  2. Routine maintenance for design concrete floors
consists of daily dust mopping to remove dirt and
grime accumulation that can abrade the surface.
Soils act as an abrasive and can ruin the clarity
    and shine of polished concrete.
  3. When mopping use only clean water and soap ,
(please avoid any strong chemicals, bleach or
    detergents)
  4. Try to clean spills and stains from the floor as
quickly as possible so they don’t absorb into the
    surface.
